Zurich, March 23, 2009: Intelligent, attractive, successful – and single; the more women take positions of leadership, the greater becomes the number of those who are involuntarily single
“More women in leadership positions” – that is a claim often repeated, by women, by politicians, within the business community and society in general. And there is progress: In Switzerland the number of women in business leadership positions has doubled between 1997 and 2007 and on the board level the number has increased by 20 percent. But it seems that women have to pay a high price to be in top postions. As the number of women moving up is increasing, so is the number of those whose relationships and marriages are breaking up and who remain without children despite wishing to have a family. There is a clearly positive correlation between professional success and private unhappiness.
