How do we meet the world’s growing energy needs? How do we at the same time meet our climate goals? These are vital questions for technology and energy policy in the 21st century. The electric power grid plays a key role in answering those questions. Without transforming our exsting power grids into smart grids, renewable sources of energy cannot be used efficiently. Smart grids in essence signify the application of digital technology to the electric power infrastructure. Infineon is a worldwide leading supplier of smart grid semiconductor solutions and the only one offering a complete portfolio for realizing a smart grid. – Shepard Fox Communications authored and edited a background paper for Infineon, aimed at raising awareness for the key role of smart grids in meeting the energy challenge. The paper marks the kick-off for a global smart grids awareness campaign.
