Mumbai, March 17, 2009: New Indian labour market report analyses paradox of strong GDP growth along with unfavorable employment trends
Significant changes have been witnessed in the Indian labour market since the opening up of the Indian economy. There has been increasing concern regarding jobless growth, widening inequality in terms of region and gender, and a mismatch between the demand of skilled labour and its availability. The paradoxical feature of a positive GDP growth along with unfavorable employment trends had so far not been thoroughly understood. A new report is now providing an analysis of that paradox. This first in-depth report of a joint research initiative by the Tata Institute and the Adecco Institute was presented today by Professor Bino Paul to the public. – Shepard Fox Communications facilitated the cooperation between the two institutes and helped in producing and publishing the report.
