London/Beijing, January 12, 2010: G2 vs G20 – Will a US-Chinese duopoly make G20 summits redundant?

Europeans have been observing changes in the global economic structure for some time now. The US and China, in its capacity as a new global economic power, are increasingly setting the tone on the international stage. American-Chinese meetings are referred to as G2 summits, meaning that the new economic duopoly will be more influencial on global politics than the newly formed G20 group. In an article for Business Watch, a leading Chinese business magazine, Wolfgang Clement, former German Minister for Economics and Labour, argues that Europeans have themselves to blame if they have been pushed into the wings irrespective of their performance levels, since they don’t manage to speak with one voice. – Shepard Fox Communications manages this monthly column that focuses on European-Chinese political and economic issues, from defining topics to editing and translating the articles.
